BobBear and the Buffalo Road

BobBear and the Buffalo Road is an original song about travelling to the city of Buffalo in the United States of America, falling in love with the charm and warmth of the people and the sadness of leaving and returning to one's place of origin. It is a bittersweet track that unusually has a sense of melody coupled with the spoken word phrases. The quotes at the start and end of the piece come from Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, and are heavily harmonised with reverse reverb to give an unearthly quality to the voices. Memories of one's time in Buffalo include, the inspiring Frank Lloyd Wright houses in the city, visits to Niagara Falls, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the wonderful Buffalo arts and crafts community, the Rochester Christmas theatre, Christmas snow in Buffalo, the Anchor Bar for Buffalo Wings, the Theodore Roosevelt Historic Home and Hollywood Hanks and Horsefeathers Architectural and Antiques. The track was built up by synthesizer sequences made by the TS-404 software synthesizer and set to a doubled rhythm track created on the Hammerhead Rhythm Station. Vocals were pitch-altered, chorus-modulated or harmonised to create a surreal quality to the spoken word phrases. A Korg Monopoly was used for the bassline. The images combine actual photographs with visual collages keyed or superimposed layer upon layer. Other moving images represent actual experiences whilst staying in Buffalo.
